Thanks for this definition of empowerment.  Having been a recipient of the other conversation on anothere listserv I was taken way back to 1992 when I was quite passionate about empowerment.

In discussions with three collegues who were considering writing an article we ended up caught in the trap of the dangers between empowerment and manipulation.

Your definition breaks that possibility.
